elcome! I'm Jam (he/him), a librarian with a slight obsession for depictions of animals. The whole site is really messy rn and I'm still figuring out what to actually do with it. Feel free to use any of the transparent elements you like. Here will be an introduction in future. For now, please take a look at the other pages. I share some pictures of my work below. Thank you for visiting!

Peter Turchin: Historical Dynamics. Why States rise and fall (2003)

Currently reading

It seems a bit presumptuous to me to try to reduce the entire history of empires to a formula. There are simply too many factors that cannot be calculated. The incorporation of mathematical models into historical scholarship is interesting, the attempt is instructive but doomed to failure. The author also falls prey to some questionable oversimplifications.

Fjodor Dostojewski: Weiße Nächte (1848)

German version of Dostoevski's White Nights. Was fitting the mood.

Don Miguel Ruiz: The Four Agreements (1997)

Useful self-help wrapped up in a lot of esoterical nonsense. The actually important content of this book could fit on a single sheet tho.

Shane Parrish: Clear Thinking (2023)

This is actually a good one. While there is a lot of bs on the market when it comes to self-help literature this one sticks out because its packed with with useful concepts and practical tips while at the same time turning self-promotion by the author to a minimum.

Jack London: To build a fire (1908)

brrr

Jakub Małecki: Saturnin (2022)

A story about the war and intergenerational trauma by one of Poland's best authors. Despite this, the book is very approachable (I'd say it's suitible for 16+) and the author works with some interesting rhetorical tricks. That this story manages to conciliate is a small miracle regarding it's topics.

Mircea Eliade: Auf der Mântuleasa-Straße (1967)

This is such a weird one and I still don't know what to make of it.

Ivo Andrić: Die Brücke über die Drina (1945)

German version of The bridge on the Drina. Tells the history of Bosnia through the example of a bridge and the town surrounding it. It's a good story, but with 500 small print pages it was a bit of a drag.

Hermann Hesse: Unterm Rad (1906)

It's a story about how school can break people. It's outdated, of course, but it captures the mood really well. I think it's one of Hesse's better works.

Hermann Hesse: Peter Camenzind (1904)

A rather boring book, that can be an interesting read if you have some form of connection to the landscape of southern Germany. Otherwise, read Siddhartha instead.

Hermann Hesse: Demian (1919)

You should read this book if you're 16. Otherwise, read Siddhartha instead.

added a scrolling background tree and a guestbook, and I reworked the photo section. It still looks a bit off. The advantage is that the photos don't load in advance. The site is generally rather slow to load, so I replaced some elements with smaller versions.

I really like the background tree because it makes the site feel more like a 'physical space', whatever that means for a website. It would be fun to start at the bottom of the tree and climb upwards tho. Maybe I will do that.

Also I will try to make this site more responsive. Started with the landing page but it's not quite there yet. (27.-29. Mar 2026)

ust some decorations. (15. Mar 2026)

dded multiple page layouts, a table of content, updating header, transparent initials and some content. (8. Mar 2026)

fter a tough week, I finally started working on the website again. I included the page layout, which I really like. I have some more ideas, but we'll see how far I get this weekend. (7. Mar 2026)

ould you believe me that I do this for a living? At least it's part of my job. And yet I have no idea about HTML and the only CSS sheet I wrote at work is a goddamn mess. So, I need to practise. And this will be my playground. (28. Feb 2026)
